This is such an important topic to me as a minister of the Gospel, because I have seen this too many times: people want to hear from God through people and not for themselves. There should be a balance! God should always be the first One you run to before you run to people for advice.
To use people, is just ONE of the methods God uses to speak to you and me. And it is so special when it happens! But make sure it is not the only way you "hear" God for your life! Don't run after events or personal prayer from another - there's so much you are missing out on because God speaks to us in so many ways! This, being just one of them: through wise counsel.
The important thing to know about hearing God through another person, is that you must be teachable. God can use anyone, even when you least expect it, to answer a prayer or respond to something you've been petitioning before Him. And you want to be ready when it happens - therefore, we must not isolate ourselves, meaning, we must be teachable.
I also know, that I must still pray over any form of advice given me, because even if it comes from a trusted person, the enemy, satan, can still want to use those closest to me to cause doubt or confusion. Therefore, I have to pray over all advice given me still! God will give you confirmation that what you were told was in fact from Him.
Having wise counsel in your life has so many advantages: it's like a covering (Prov 15:31) / it can provide direction in your life (Prov 19:20-21) / it makes it hard for hardness of heart to enter you and deceive you (Prov 11:14) / and can provide much needed correction.
One of my favorite verse in the Bible says: a word in season is a moment! (Prov 15) and it is so true! When God sends you someone and they say something, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and you know in your heart, that those words just came from God - it's a moment indeed!
Let's thank God for sending us people who are divine relationships. Let's thank God for sending people along our way who He has used and who He is going to use, to speak to us. What a privilege to hear the voice of God through wise counsel!
